Enhanced Phytoremediation for Trace-Metal-Polluted Farmland with Hibiscus cannabinus–Sedum plumbizincicola Rotation: A Case Study in Hunan, China

Trace metal pollution in farmland threatens the health of both crops and humans. Restoring these polluted farmlands safely utilizing them to elevate farmers‘ incomes are extremely needed. Phytoremediation is a promising method for extracting but its popularization limited by low efficiency economic value plants used. Herein, field study was conducted investigate potential using rotation with hyperaccumulator Sedum plumbizincicola kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus) combined heavy-metal-contaminated remediation. Results showed that obtained an aerial biomass up 21 Mg ha−1 under heavy contaminations, which significantly higher than S. (<8 ha−1). However, concentrations Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn were at least 100, 2, 8, 75 fold kenaf, respectively. The removal can be more 3800, 720, 104,347 g ha−1, 38, 3, 27 times Finally, two increased 7.88%, 126%, 33.5%, 4.39%, respectively, compared monoculture. Hence, not only remove metals from contaminated soil accelerate phytoremediation pace, also supply large number raw materials industrial applications.
